THE BEGGAR'S OPERA

In the days of yore, I promised to make (giant unresized) screencaps of this if I ever rented it. Here they are! Before anyone asks, no, I haven't the foggiest what the plot was. My comprehension can be summed up by three words, which also serve as a handy content warning:

Note the ~hand placement~

Gettin' crunk.

This song was essentially "I LIKE THE LADIES."

Don't player hate, CELEBRATE! (He had five women hanging off of him at some point.)

And then he turned around and made out with the guy. (Not really.)

Probably wondering why the women kept singing whenever he was about to get busy with them.

My work here is done!

Go back to "love." I hate myself enough for the both of us—after all, I just rented The Beggar's Opera.

The first scene with him was, er, longer than this post implies, but just imagine if my computer ever needed to be repaired. "Why does this folder have 242342323525235 pictures of Roger Daltrey sticking his face into boobies?"

AHAHA OH WOW

I was reading about the summary somewhere and you know, I think I'm just gonna stop bothering with trying to understand this film.

It probably would've made more sense if I hadn't gotten bored and started fast-forwarding before Roger even came on.

I just glanced at Wikipedia and it sort of makes sense now.

SORT OF

No shame in that, I do it with all of Roger's movies. I'm pretty sure my first viewing of Tommy started at the Cousin Kevin scene (albeit that was my mother's fault)

Wikipedia told me the play had a sequel. AAAHHHHH??

The [info]nerdork's cut of Tommy starts with the "Eyesight to the Blind" scene.

The [info]preciselymade cut of Tommy starts with twenty minutes of "TIA HAVE YOU SEEN THE COUSIN KEVIN SCENE YET IT'S SO AMAZING COME HERE RIGHT NOW WATCH LOOK AT THIS" followed by five minutes of unimpression.

My first viewing was with my mom because she's always told me tales of how she skipped school 23523532523 times to see it when it was in theatres. Watching the Uncle Ernie scene was MODERATELY AWKWARD.

I think I'd be way too scared to ask for a Daltrey movie for Christmas, LMFAO. Unless Lisztomania came out on DVD, in which case I'd buy a copy for everybody

HAHAHA. I'm not sure what I'm more amused by: the fact that you had this conversation with your dad, or the fact that your dad knows there's butts in McVicar.

I LOVE BEGGAR'S OPERA. I have this on VHS and have seen it so many times I can recite along with most of it...which I know is shameful as it's by no means the best production ever. But Roger's a good Captain MacHeath (re: wanton womanizer). It's an oddly sexy performance, over all.

As for the I LIKE THE LADIES song, I think it went something like:

When the heart of a man is depressed with cares
The mist is dispelled when a woman appears
Like the notes of a fiddle she sweetly, sweetly
Raises the spirits and charms our ears

Aaaaand I forgot the rest but there was something about breast-caressing in there. Good stuff. :)

HAHA, yes, that song was pretty fabulous. (And, gosh, what IS it with The Beggar's Opera and breast-caressing?) I have to say that I got an odd kick out of his singing, as bizarre as it was.
